Healing your cosmetic tattoo can be a bit of a rollercoaster, follow this guide before and after your appointment for the best healed results & always *trust the process*

  • SIX WEEKS BEFORE

    • Stop retinoids/retinols in the area

    • Stop growth serums

    TWO WEEKS BEFORE

    • No tanning/tanning beds

    • FIRST TIME CLIENTS ONLY: stop waxing/tweezing your brows. Freshly waxed or threaded skin is too sensitive to tattoo.

    • Avoid botox two weeks before & two weeks after

    • Any antibiotic courses must be completely finished two weeks before tattooing.

    ONE WEEK BEFORE

    • Stop taking fish oils. omega supplements, vitamin C, magnesium or any other supplements that can thin the blood

    24 HOURS BEFORE

    • NO CAFFEINE or alcohol 24 hours before the appointment (including sodas, chocolate, teas, decaf etc). These all thin the blood and can greatly increase sensitivity and topical numbing effectiveness along with increase your chance of bleeding and bruising during your appointment. Both bleeding and bruising compromises the skin’s ability to take pigment and my ability to see resulting in having to avoid areas of the brow leading to inconsistent healed results.

    • No anti-inflammatory mediation or any medication that thins the blood like advil, aspirin or ibuprofen (tylenol is ok!)

    DO’s & DONT’s

    • NO prenumbing the skin at home, I will not be able to tattoo prenumbed skin.

    • Want me to see how you like your makeup? Go ahead and arrive wearing it!

    • If you want, go ahead and bring reference photos, but keep your reference photos from my own portfolio.

  • DAY ONE:

    • Wipe your brows very gently back and forth with the provided wipes (5x back and forth) when you get home from your appointment and every 90 minutes until bedtime.

    DAY TWO:

    • Very gently wash your brows/freckles morning & night with a gentle scent-free cleanser (spectro gel, cerave, cetaphil, etc) do not scrub your tattoos.

    • Rinse completely

    • Pat dry with paper towel only (it’s clean & lint free, avoid bath towels!)

    • Do not wash your brows in the shower, avoid water for the first week and wash them separately

    DAY THREE - FOURTEEN

    • Follow the same routine of washing 2x daily morning & night with a very gentle wash > rinse > paper towel pat dry/air dry

    • Follow up with a no-nonsense, scent free moisturizer or very thin layer of aquaphor

    DO’s & DON’Ts

    • NO SWEATING WHATSOEVER FOR A WEEK! Sweating while healing can lead to infection, or complete removal of the tattoo. Sweating, not just what drips down your face but even tackiness in the skin, can push the pigment out during healing resulting in either the tattoo disappearing completely or an orange tattoo (red is the largest molecule that makes up brown and can be left in the face while the smaller molecules of pigment are pushed out)

    • No swimming/soaking for 3 weeks after your appointment, same with any healing tattoo!

    • Avoid make-up on and around the area until the flaking period has stopped

    • Avoid active skincare until 4 weeks after your touch up

    • NO sun exposure/tanning for minimum two weeks after tattooing (you can wear SPF 30+ 10 days after tattooing)

Can you get your brows done in the summertime still?! Absolutely, just protect your skin from the sun, and plan any cottage weekends or beach days a couple weeks before or after your tattoo! If you’re a sweaty person in the summer without access to AC though, it may be best to wait until cooler weather!

  • So a couple things to remember— everyone heals at a different pace, within the 4 week window it takes skin to fully heal & trust the process, it can be a rollercoaster!

    • The first few days your tattoos are going to look darker than your initial results, sort of crispy and like you’ve overfilled them. Some redness may follow the appointment, but typically if you have followed the aftercare, you should experience minimal redness at most.

    • Next, your tattoos are going to start flaking and may look patchy for about 24-48 hours (don’t pick them!) this often happens around day 5. The flakiness ranges from clients saying most commonly reporting that they didn’t even notice, to clients finding it a little itchy and bothersome for a day or two. Do not itch or pick at your brows.

    • NOW WE’RE ENTERING THE DISAPPEARING STAGE :o Don’t panic, this is normal. Remember, skin heals inside out- so your tattoos are working their magic beneath the surface and are hiding beneath fresh new skin healing on top.

Your tattoos can take 4-6 weeks to fully re-appear, so it may be tempting but I kindly ask that you don’t email me, and trust the process. Don’t forget— we have a touch up 4-8 weeks after your appointment where we can always go darker should they heal too light!
